About the Choreographer
Kem Sopheak (b. 2000, Phnom Penh) studied Cambodian classical dance at Khmer Art Academy in Preak Ho for 3 years. She is interested in contemporary dance and has joined a choreography class with Yon Davy. Sopheak has been attending many dance workshops such as those of The Umbrellas of Phnom Penh. She has performed a contemporary dance at Soka Gakkai International-Cambodia (SCI) in Siem Reap, and participated in the Sensing the Capital project of Sa Sa Art Projects at the White Building in 2017.
Voung Sokpheng (b. 2002, Phnom Penh) studies in Tuol Tumpoung High School. She has joined a choreography class with Yon Davy and participated in some dance workshops, such as those of The Umbrella Phnom Penh in 2017. She has performed a contemporary dance at Soka Gakkai International-Cambodia (SCI) in Siem Reap, and participated in the Sensing the Capital project of Sa Sa Art Projects in the White Building in 2017.
Yon Davy started her training in both classical and folkloric dance in 1993. Owing to her strong interest in contemporary dance, Davy has been involved with a number of workshops and performances with Amrita Performing Arts. She has worked with Cambodian and international choreographers including Chey Chankethya, Peter Chin, Arco Renz and artists from La MaMa Theater. She has received several grants to participate in workshops and residencies at important institutions in the region such as Taiwan National University of the Arts in Taipei in 2008 and the Asian Cultural Complex in Gwangju, South Korea in 2015. She was selected among the young Southeast Asian choreographers to participate in Southeast Asian Choreolab in Malaysia in 2014 and the International Young Choreographers Project in Taiwan in 2015. She was commissioned twice by Amrita Performing Arts to create new works in the Contemporary Dance Platform. Davy is among the pioneers in contemporary initiatives in Cambodia and she continues to be at the forefront in the bourgeoning contemporary dance community in Cambodia.
