5-Star Building: Performance by Phok Sopheap

Saturday, August 10, 6pm
Sa Sa Art Projects, #26-28 E2, White Building, Sothearos Blvd.
In Khmer and English translation.

Upon the completion of his six-week residency, artist Phok Sopheap shared with the public a new performance piece, 5-Star Building. During his Pisaot residency at Sa Sa Art Projects, Phok has explored new techniques in painting, and also investigated performance making. 5-Star Building was the artist’s first public performance, and as such marked a significant expansion of Phok’s practice. The piece also extended the artist’s area of interest—which had usually involved memories of the past, including his family—into a contemporary topic, directly inspired by Phok’s present living experience. Experimental and playful, 5-Star Building was the artist’s first attempt to question and challenge the present conditions of the vibrant White Building community.
