Piyarat Piyapongwiwat

Thailand

Piyarat Piyapongwiwat (b.1977, Phrae, Thailand) is a multidisciplinary artist working with various media including video, photography, text, sound, and installation. Her work usually reflects her surrounding experiences, including questioning of contemporary issues such as gender, notion of margin, cultural change and globalisation. Her artistic research is informed by theories of social science, anthropology and philosophy.

Piyarat has presented works locally and internationally. Her latest group exhibitions include Samut Thai: Unfinished History (2017), Performing Arts Meeting in Yokohama (TPAM), at BankART Studio, Yokohama; Seismograph: Sensing the City - Art in the Urban Age, Art Stage Singapore (2016); and 2016 Sovereign Asian Art Prize Finalist Exhibition, Hong Kong.

Piyarat was a 2017 recipient of the Japan Foundation Asia Center Fellowship Program, and a finalist of 2016 Sovereign Asian Art Prize, Hong Kong. Piyarat holds a BA from RMIT University, Australia and a BFA from Ecole Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Montpellier Agglomération (ESBAMA), France. She currently lives and works in Chiang Mai.
