Documentary and Contemporary Photography Class 2018

The Documentary and Contemporary Photography Class is for photographers who want to work more on concepts in their photography. The class will cover various forms of documentary and contemporary photograph, including street photography, documentary photography, fine art photography, and so on. The focus is not only on technical skills, but more on developing conceptual approaches to photography, and using images to tell a story, or to be more abstract.

There is potential for students wishing to work with analogue photography, if desired, but this is not an essential component of the class.

The Documentary and Contemporary Photography Class can overlap with the Contemporary Art Class being taught by Khvay Samnang at Sa Sa Art Projects.

At the completion of the Documentary and Contemporary Photography Class, students will be equipped with the following skills:

  • Ability to identify concepts they wish to work on in their photography

  • Ability to develop these concepts through research on other photographers, and through practice of photography

  • Knowledge of photographic practices in Cambodia, the region, and beyond

  • Ability to present their work and work-in-progress, and to critically evaluate their own photographic work and the work of their peers

  • Development of technical skills, including in photo-editing

  • Optional opportunity to experiment with medium-format and/or analogue photography, if desired

Contemporary and Documentary Photography Class 2018 is supported by Rei Foundation.
