Screening of Video Works by Artist Minnette Vári

Sa Sa Art Projects is pleased to present a screening of video works by Pisaot artist-in-residence Minnette Vári. The screening will be followed by a conversation between the artist and curator Vuth Lyno, with engagement from the audience.

South African artist Minnette Vári (b. 1968) works in diverse media, from ink drawing to video installations, often incorporating performance elements into reworked media and historical documentary footage. She is known for work that examines the discomforts and desires at the heart of personal, political and historical narratives. Her work has been associated with exhibitions and conferences exploring themes of identity and the body, transition, politics, mythology, trauma and history.

Since the early nineties, Vári has exhibited her work has had numerous solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions such as the Second Johannesburg Biennale (1997), the Venice Biennale (2001 and 2007), and the 10th Biennale of Havana (2009). Vári holds a Masters of Fine Art from the University of Pretoria in 1997 and lectures in Visual Arts at the University of Johannesburg. More about Minnette Vári at www.minnettevari.com.
