Plastic Workshop with Heak Pheary

Artist-in-residence Heak Pheary faciliated a workshop with young students at the White Building about plastic, its effects on human and environment, and how it can be transformed into wearable items and flags to further raise awareness.
About artists
Heak Pheary (b. 1990, Battambang, Cambodia) works with mixed media and her works usually deal with issues of environment and discard, and collective attitude towards them. Pheary was Manager at Sammaki Community Arts, where she organised exhibitions, workshops, and taught art classes for children. She has done numerous art workshops with hundreds of children, including with the US Embassy, high schools, and several NGOs in Battambang. Her group exhibitions include “Khmer Portrait,” at the Royal University of Fine Arts, Phnom Penh (2013); “Her Open Eyes” and “Human Rights,” both at Sammaki Community Arts, Battambang (2013 & 2012); “Mekong Impact,” a travelling exhibition to 5 provinces around Mekong (2012); and “Collaboration,” at Make Maek Gallery, Battambang (2012). Pheary graduated from Phare Ponleu Selpak’s Visual Arts School in 2013, and Yamada School of Art in 2014. Pheary lives and works in Battambang and Phnom Penh.
