Pen Sereypagna

Cambodia

Sa Sa Art Projects is pleased to welcome our current artist-in-residence and the first longer-term resident Pen Sereypagna. Over the course of the next three months, Pagna will team up with architects, researchers, students, the White Building community and Phnom Penh residents in mapping a genealogy of Phnom Penh city centering on the White Building and Bassac River Front area. The project will study and attempt to visualise history(ies) of the area, its evolving urban form and communities, and community-based visions for its future.

Pen Sereypagna (b. 1989, Phnom Penh) is a freelance architect and urban researcher based in Phnom Penh City. He holds a Bachelor of Architecture and Urbanism from the Royal University of Fine Arts (RUFA), Phnom Penh.

In 2012 he was awarded a six-month grant from Asian Cultural Council (ACC) to live and study in New York City. While there he undertook a six-month internship at the offices of Steven Harris Architects and also audited courses in the School of Constructed Environments at Parsons The New School for Design.

In 2010, Pagna began an online architecture journal, Lumhor, which focuses on architecture, urbanism and design in Cambodia. He has worked for national and international urban NGOs such as the Vann Molyvann Project, Khmer Architecture Tours and Sahmakum Teang Tnaut. He also worked as an architect at Archetype Group in Phnom Penh.

More recently, Pagna started Phnom Penh Visions, a project to foster discussion around new urban ideas for Phnom Penh. He is a participant of Rates of Exchange, Un-Compared: Contemporary Art in Bangkok and Phnom Penh (2014-2015), an interdisciplinary exchange program that looks at and conceptualises contemporary art from the two cities, curated by Roger Nelson with Brian Curtain.
